Leonor Freitas, daughter of Ermelinda Freitas, represents the 4th generation in this family of winemaking tradition and continues the theme of strong female leadership, something that has always been intrinsically linked to the brand and the family history.
Leonor Inherited 60 hectares of vineyards with only two grape varieties: Castelão and Fernão Pires. Situated in Fernando Pó, a privileged area in Palmela, Leonor Freitas with her innovative spirit introduced a diversity of varietals such as Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, Aragonês, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet, among others, and has subsequently bought more land and now owns an impressive 210 hectares of vineyard.
Casa Ermelinda is undergoing a great amount of expansion through investment; this can be seen in the vineyards, the winery and the technical team with the major objective, improving quality. These investments to Casa Ermelinda Freitas are already starting to pay dividends with great success, winning several prizes at national and international contests with its main brands: Terras do Pó, Dona Ermelinda, Quinta da Mimosa and its single varietal wines ‘Casa Ermelinda Freitas’.
