The 445 hectares of vineyards are situated in Fernando Pó, a privileged area in the region of Palmela.
The soil of these vineyards between the Sado and Tejo is composed of very similar to sand beach sands, and Rico in water, playing an important role in the maturation of the grapes.
The surrounding river breeze cools the vines during the dry summers, offering softness and elegance to the wines.
It is in these sandy soils that grows the Castelão grape, known in the region for Periquita. The varietal characteristic of the Peninsula de Setúbal region makes up 40% of the vineyards of Casa Ermelinda Freitas.
In total there are 29 varietals planted over an area of 445 football fields and 9 million litres of wine produced per year.
