The award-winning, luxury wine hotel, The Yeatman, in Porto, celebrated its first ten years, in December 2020, with the launch of an enigmatic book. The sophisticated wine Hotel located in the historic Port wine cellar district offering breathtaking views over Porto and the river Douro, appeals to wine and gastronomy lovers everywhere and the book reveals some of the many ingredients behind its success.
In a year as challenging as 2010, in the midst of an economic crisis, The Yeatman’s inauguration was considered to be extremely audacious and ambitious. "The First Decade 2010 – 2020” recounts the dream behind the stunning luxury destination Hotel and its path to evolution, expansion and success.
The Yeatman’s 10th anniversary in 2020 was an equally challenging and unpredictable year, and once again, The Yeatman proved the importance of adopting resilience and creativity as cornerstones for success, demonstrating that in less favorable times, it is crucial to carry on and forge one’s own unique path.
The First Decade allows you to discover many of the ingredients which have contributed to The Yeatman’s unique qualities. It demystifies The Yeatman’s passion for Portuguese wine, Michelin star gastronomy and its intimate relationship with the city of Porto, Portugal’s second city. It also tells the story of the family behind the name and other unusual, historical facts.
"The First Decade” reviews the first ten years and The Yeatman’s philosophy surrounding its central wine theme. "We are celebrating our 10th anniversary, however we carry within us our history and experience gained since 1838 when The Yeatman family established itself in Port wine, explains Adrian Bridge, CEO of The Yeatman. "Our origins in the wine trade give us timeless qualities and experience which help us unite the past to the present day. We are proud to continue our wine theme throughout all aspects of our Hotel: from our wine cellar where we house the largest collection of Portuguese wine in the world, to our bedrooms - represented by Portuguese wine producers who are our partners, to tastings and masterclasses where you can taste Portugal’s best wines, to our food and wine pairing experiences including our wine dinners, as well as our luxurious Vinotherapy Spa treatments”.
Reflecting The Yeatman’s first ten years in operation, the book is divided into ten chapters with perhaps the most emblematic being that which explores 10 wine styles, 100 wines and 100 dishes. These include Aromatic dry whites and Rosés to Port and Sparkling wines – each style presents different wine labels and their corresponding gastronomic pairing. The sum of the chapter amounts to 100 wine partners and the work of the Hotel’s Wine Director, Beatriz Machado and The Yeatman’s Executive Chef Ricardo Costa – who have both been part of the project since opening.
"This is indeed part of our success”, reveals Jan-Erik Ringertz, Director General of The Yeatman. "Actually, our team encompasses many staff members who have been with us since opening. This means that they share the Group´s vision which in turn has a big impact on the service we provide.”
The book ‘The Yeatman - The First Decade 2010 – 2020” has a limited print run and costs 65€ and can be purchased from The Yeatman’s shop as well as Online shop.
Over its relatively short lifetime, The Yeatman has already earned a wide variety of national and international distinctions and awards, apt recognition for the quality of its premium accommodation, but also for its restaurant, wine list and The Yeatman’s Caudalie Vinotherapie® Spa with treatments using the well-known Caudalie brand, inspired by the grape and vine.
